At ApusSports, we use polyurethane instead of rubber in the production of our newaccessories. What does this mean for our clients and fitness accessory users?
Rubber owes its popularity to its durability andelasticity.
These properties make it a commonly used material in fitness equipmentmanufacturing. While rubber works well as a flexible material, it has recentlyfaced strong competition. Polyurethane is rapidly taking over the plasticsmarket. How can you tell the difference between these two materials? At firstglance, you can notice differences in the surface aesthetics. In addition, thesmell of the product matters. The distinctive odor of rubber can becomenoticeable after prolonged use, to the point where an entire functional orfitness zone in a club may be affected. With polyurethane, this is not anissue. It is highly resistant to various chemical compounds. It exhibitsthermoplastic properties and has a high elasticity coefficient, meaning it's anideal material for molding at high temperatures while maintaining elasticity inits final form. That’s why we’ve chosen this material for producing Apus Sportsaccessories. It performs exceptionally well in such products.
In concrete terms: Polyurethane is extremelyresistant to stretching and tearing.
Fitness accessories made of polyurethane are more resistant to aging. Thematerial has electro-insulating properties and high resistance to stainingduring prolonged use. So, there's no need to worry about cleaning every barbellor bumper plate every other day. Polyurethane’s continuous operatingtemperature ranges from -30°C to +125°C — much higher than what we typicallysee in fitness clubs or gyms, unless the equipment ends up on the dark side ofthe moon. Polyurethane also has excellent abrasion resistance — up to ten timesmore than rubber and other wear-resistant materials. It has outstandingresistance to damage from moisture, water, and weather-related conditions, aswell as resistance to oil-based compounds, greases, organic solvents, andvarious chemicals, such as gasoline. This also matters when transportingproducts to the club.
To put it simply, polyurethane is nearlyindestructible.
It has the ability to absorb shocks, vibrations, and impacts, making it perfectfor bumper plates, for example. Importantly, polyurethane can be easily coloredbut does not stain other materials it comes into contact with. Anotheraesthetic advantage of polyurethane products is that the material allows foreither a glossy, glass-like finish or a matte surface. As a result, fitnessaccessories look freshly polished even after long-term use. It is six timeslighter than steel, making it easier to tailor product designs to the specificweight requirements of various accessory models.
Purchasingpolyurethane-based fitness accessories from Apus Sports is an investment in thelong-term durability of your fitness or functional training zone. Theseaccessories form a core part of gym and fitness club equipment. Users can alsorest assured about the ergonomic design, appearance, and tactile and olfactoryproperties of the products.
